A Better Chance A Better Chance (ABC) Lower Merion (LM) is a member of the national A Better Chance Organization. The goal at ABC Lower Merion is to provide a program that offers a challenging educational opportunity to academically talented, economically disadvantaged young men of color who do not have access to strong public schools in their home community. ABC LM is located in Ardmore, PA and the scholars attend Lower Merion High School.
Ardmore Library The Women’s Club of Ardmore, a group of forward-thinking, civic-minded women, established the Ardmore Free Library in 1899. The first of Lower Merion’s six libraries, Ardmore started with little more than six dollars in the treasury, 300 books, and big plans for the future. Today, the Library plays a central role in the community, often bustling with patrons browsing the shelves for interesting books, music, movies, and audio books. Residents can be found on the computers searching for jobs online and working with tutors to learn English or pass the GED exam. Story time is crowded with children bursting with excitement to go on a new adventure, and instructive and enjoyable programs fostering excitement about learning and reading are frequently offered.
Education Foundation of Lower Merion The Education Foundation of Lower Merion’s mission is to provide a vehicle for the entire community’s voluntary support of programs and activities enhancing the educational experience of all students, consistent with the mission of the Lower Merion School District.
Eldernet of Lower Merion and Narberth ElderNet provides a safety net for older and disabled adults to help them remain in their homes with dignity and strengthens food and financial security for all community members in need of support.
Lower Merion Township Scholarship Fund LMTSF awards grants on a financial need basis to graduates of Lower Merion and Harriton high schools for post high school education. This includes funds for colleges, universities, vocational/technical, or business schools for up to four years or eight semesters. Contributions come from District residents, industry, civic and social organizations, proceeds from school photographs, the sale of Tribute Cards through Home-School Associations, and student and parent fund raising activities.
Merion Fire Company of Ardmore The Merion Fire Company of Ardmore is the oldest fire company in the Township of Lower Merion. The fire company was formed in 1890 by local citizens who saw a need for fire protection in the community. Within this small area, the fire company’s neighborhoods are made up of two extremes – tight streets with smaller homes and large estates with mansions. Mixed in the middle of this, there is a railroad with commuter and freight train service. Lining up and down the banks of the railroad are rows of apartment buildings. With over 150 apartments and 770 commercial properties, the firefights train to stay at the top of their profession.
Narberth Ambulance Narberth Ambulance is an organization built on the countless hours of work from its volunteers and career staff, working together for over seventy-five years. Growing from one station with 2 ambulances into an EMS service incorporating 4 stations, 9 ambulances, 3 responder vehicles & 1 Mass Casualty / Rehab bus. Narberth Ambulance now responds to over 10,000 calls a year. Today, the staff includes over 30 full time and 40 part time employees and over 70 volunteers, continuing to give time & service to the residents of Lower Merion, Narberth, Haverford, Conshohocken & West Conshohocken.
Palm Center for Positive Aging To assist adults 50 years of age and older to maintain a healthy, satisfying quality of life by providing services and activities in a nurturing environment that enables them to function more independently in the community. The Center is an advocate of unmet needs of older adults and is a repository of information to assure them their rights, benefits, and opportunities.
Riverbend Environmental Education Center Riverbend’s mission is to foster an awareness, appreciation and understanding of our total environment through educational programming. By growing both the love of nature and environmental literacy, Riverbend aims to inspire action that contributes to a healthier planet for all. Riverbend’s high quality, nature-based science education taught by trained educators engages and excites learners.
